Increased Potassium Intake Lowers Blood Pressure

One of the keys to maintain a healthy blood pressure may be to consume adequate amounts of potassium in the diet.

In a new study in the “Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology”, researchers assessed the health of 3,303 individuals. The higher the potassium levels in the urine, the lower the subjects’ blood pressure was. The effect of potassium on blood pressure was even stronger than the effect of salt or sodium.

Conclusions

Consuming a high intake of potassium-rich foods, such as fruits and vegetables, may be one of the most important steps towards maintaining a healthy blood pressure.
