Low-Carb Diet Superior for Diabetics

Diabetics who suffered from impaired insulin sensitivity and blood glucose regulation may benefit from a diet low in carbohydrates.

According to a new study, diabetics who were instructed to limit carbohydrate intake experienced more favorable improvements in hbA1c, a marker of insulin resistance, as well as BMI.

Conclusions

Many studies have failed to find any benefits of low-carb diets compared to simply reducing calories.  These studies typically apply to healthy individuals, however, and may no apply to those who suffer from impaired blood glucose regulating.  This study suggests that for diabetics, low-carb diets may indeed be superior.
